Now There is a Sight You Don't Often Get to See
Wow, another great view off the shore today. We had gotten word of a special ship coming into harbor today, very early.
A Tall Ship, 4 masted, Esmarelda. One of only four in the world. She has quite a history behind her, if you get the chance to look her up. She is the pride of the Chilean Navy and built in Spain. Boy, those Spaniards sure know how to do it right.
Having advanced notice, I grabbed a drink and some peanuts, for a good healthy breakfast, and headed to the beach. She was due in at 7am, but might get there earlier. So I chanced it and got there early.
As I found a great place for viewing and was enjoying the cool air and the marine layer, I settled in for whatever. The sun wasn't even around yet.
I saw some tugs out in the water and a Navy ship keeping guard. A little unusual, but I was going with the flow. They were all in the fog and kind of cool looking.
I was hoping for a clear day and the mist had me concerned for a bit.
Then I realized, it added to the whole mystery.
About 6:45 am, and for anyone who knows me, this is usually not on my timetable, I saw something out there. It looked so tall, it was mind boggling. Coming in out of the mist gave it the whole ghost ship scenario. The only thing missing were those eerie fog horns and bells you hear in the movies.
She was headed straight in towards the harbor and was magnificent.
She is going to be here for 6 days and hopefully we can get down to see her. There will be added security, but that is okay.
I moved onto my favorite viewing area and for getting pictures, which puts me just about on the ship . I hope they turn out.
Her crew were all standing at attention in their dress whites and several of the crew were climbing her ropes in a formation. She had her flags flying and her banners. She is beautiful. By the time she got into the harbor, the sun was out and perfect for pictures.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
