Dancing in the night
Okay how many of you were active participants of all our wonderful sock hops we used to have after each home game???
Do you remember the band from Greenwood that was so hot and played at our school often? The Cavaliers. I mean I am talking Beatles lite here.
And all the kids from other schools that wanted to come to our dances since we had the best ones.
I know the kids nowadays couldn't even compare their proms to ours. Remember Stairway to the Sea with the pond and all? What a great job we did.
With all the dancing we did back then, no wonder we all were such skinny little things, maybe that is what we need to do nowadays is join an active dance group. I know I had great wind back then and could run forever.
Can anyone even remember one of the line dances we used to do besides the cha cha cha.

One time Vandy told a funny story about our Prom. It seems that the fountain and pond leaked onto the gym floor, ruining a big section of the expensive hardwood.
The School Board was not amused but since Vickie I. had insisted that the Prom have the water-works, he was VERY happy that her daddy was President of the Board.
Sock hops were almost as important as the games and it was so much fun. That Chip F. was a smooth dancer (okay, I only danced with him once, but I still remember it!)
I don't remember the name of the line dance we used to do, but I do remember we'd end up with a block of 30+ kids, so it was more than just a "line".
I envied Chip his self confidence. He was smooth in lots of ways, wasn't he?
Earlier you mentioned "The Cavaliers". I remember they had a pretty decent drummer, and he could do the solo in "wipeout".
I also remember an attractive blonde gal that could do a pretty good "shimmy" to that solo!
Good memories. Can we just repeat the good ones?.....I'm ready to go do it again!
Golden Girl,
The Whiteland Barn, Scott Hall, CG Sock Hops were the best. Mosty great memories. One not so great memory, though.
* P.T. You're right about The Chipster - He was so smooth.... Redgie was a pretty good dancer, too.
* G.B. I remember that attractive blonde gal on the dance floor. What a dancer!
Our Class had some great dancers. Too bad, I wasn't one of them. I was an non active participant at most of the Sock Hops. But, active in spirit & mind from my seat in the bleachers. I am surprised that I didn't have some sort of sensory overload problem from sitting in the bleachers and wishing that I could dance. Maybe that is what is wrong with me today.... I did try to dance one time that I can remember (I wish that I could forget about it - but, it is like some recurring nightmare). It was an embarrassing moment for me (I've had a few of those. Well, probaby more than a few). Read on if you dare to. It was pretty ugly as I remembered it.
I was in the bleachers with some of my friends(Ha!) They talked me into dancing and said it would be easy. I said "OK, next song." It happened to be a fast song and only the good dancers were on the floor. Well, I joined in - and went totaly spastic. Very Ugly!!The song ended and I looked up and it seemed as if everyone in the Gym was looking at me and probably wondering "what is wrong with that idiot.." I went back to my seat in the bleachers and all of my so called friends were laughing their heads off. I excused myself to go to the restroom - and never went back.. Walked Home - Soooo Embarrased!
I 'dance' about once every 5 years or so now. Still petty ugly. My last time was at the latest Class Reunion - Jamie felt sorry for me. So please, if I have any friends out there in Blogland and it looks as if I may be trying to get my courage up to dance - just mention 'The Sock Hop' to me and I'll sit back down.
TD,
I have to tell you, I do NOT remember you being a bad dancer at all. I do remember I danced with you during those years and at the reunion a few years back. (When a certain little blonde came to check on us.) I also remember you wearing a red shirt and you looked good in it.
That's funny the things that happen to us back then, that leave such marks on our lives. I, too, had some of them.
I do know, I thought we had the coolest class because so many of our classmates danced, even the guys, and I never even gave it a thought as to whether anyone was good or not, just that they got out there and did it.
I know I admired each and every one of you and I know that those times back then were such wonderful memories and I would take them again any day.
Here's a toast of a ice cold margarita to you for revealing such a memory, that took such bravery. Thank you for sharing.
To G.G and P.T.
I have to tell you guys not to read too much into my 'poor pitiful me' comments. Please Remember - Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars! Or is it the other way around??? I'm just really trying to make fun of myself and of some of life's rough edges and you guys are feeling sorry for me. I have a great bunch of friends - that's obvious here. A great family, great friends, good health and the perfect margarita - What more could a guy ask for???
Remember the comic Tim Conway and the parts he played in the Carol Burnett Show?? Well, I have always had people tell me to smile all thru my life. Funny thing is - I do smile, but it is mainly on the inside and it obviously doesn't shine through very often.
To help with this, I have taken on this self depreciatory style of humor because it seems to work for me most of the time. The stories about Mrs. Rueff and my spastic dance style are both very true. But, other than probably a temporary sense of embarrassment, I really don't think my self-esteem was diminished much by either event..
I have a lot of very sad stories to tell here and I will continue on with my therapy..Onward Trojans!
TD,
Thanks for the nice comments.
There was one dance we did, called the Leg, remember?? For the life of me, I can't imagine where it came from and why any of us have any hips left. We used to do it in a large circle and also the Bug while in a circle.
TD,
I gotta say, I saw you smile alot and laugh out loud when we used to ride our horses at full speed through the valley. We had such a great group of riders that joined us one time or another and those are times I will cherish to my death. You on Buck, when you could beat Tug to him and Me on Dusty or Admiral and Black Jack, Babe and their owners,a cousin or two and friends from over on 37. We used to ride all year long and in snow so deep, our feet dragged in the snow. How many kids nowadays even have a clue as to what that is like? I remember the horses actually walking with snow in their hooves two inches thick.
We used to ride all Sunday and finish up at the Beehive. Gosh, could I do that again.
I think we even had a dog or three follow us everywhere. I could never hide anywhere since my border collie, Scooter was always with me. If anyone wanted me, they just looked for my dog.
TD:
Isn't that "women are from Heaven, men are from Hell"?
And your comments about smiling.....
a little like this guy, I think:

He's smiling too!
GB:
Yep, That pretty much sums it up. I would say that jpg represent the Class of 65.. Think we could adopt it as a Mascot?.....Onward Trojans!
I would have to agree, that is one beautiful picture of our country's eagle. Good job GB
