Confession Time
Okay all you CGHS ers, think way back now and tell all, Where was your favorite parking place....
And I don't mean at the grocery store or the mall.
What was your funniest experience while parking... keep it clean.
Isn't it a shame the kids nowadays won't get to experience that running and dodging the police.
And if you won't tell, I will start narcing on ya.

I always preferred parking on a flat surface. My "stay put" brakes were so bad, if I parked on even a slight incline, I'd find my car in the next county.
Is that what you mean, GH?
No confusion for me, GH....
I know "parking" means more than moving the gearshift lever to it's uppermost position!
1. Meridian Drive-In
2. Greenwood Drive-In
Also during the summer, I'd throw a blanket on the motorcycle, then drive to a hilltop in a pasture off Morgantown road, spread the blanket, then NOT look at the stars!
Best parking ever! (And no fear of snoopers.)
PT......
I hope you typed that with a straight face. I am talking about the ole fashion parking with the b'friend routine. You are a riot girl.
GB...
I think ya gotta it. That's what I'm talking about. Drive ins always worked for me.
Did you ever try Fairview Rd. all gravel????
I wonder where the kids would park now in Johnson county, they would have to drive all the way to podunk. Now there is a whole other story.
I remember one night going park raiding and catching a whole bunch of CGers, and chasing them through the country, they thought we were the cops cause we put red crepe paper on the lights. Ask TS and DC about it sometime.
One silly story.
From my house in 1964 you could see forever at night! Well, almost.
The only thing between us and B’ville were lots of those lights farmers use to light up the barn lot. If there was a car coming or even a motorcycle, you could see it miles before it could even close.
Ivan D. was our neighbor and my bus driver. He was always such a serious man, absolutely focused on farming and a little cranky most of the time.
He rarely smiled and I think he laughed once in his life.
He called late one night to ask Daddy help him check on some animals. That was the story they told us anyway.
The truth was, Ivan had seen car lights in the barn lot of a farmer he knew to be on vacation. In fact the lights seemed to go off and on - maybe someone walking in front of them? It had been going on for a couple of hours!
Someone was up to no good, maybe stealing from the house, maybe stealing animals. It was time to take action.
So Daddy, Ivan and two other neighbors headed out to investigate.
As they drove up into the lot, their car lights landed on the car in the barn lot. All they could see was flying elbows, knees, clothes, and a huge bubble of blonde hair.
A long tall lanky kid,,, the same one that was supposed to be looking after the farm while the owners were away,,,, the same kid whose Dad was in the front seat with Ivan, drew himself up and out of the car, trying desperately to make himself presentable. The girl kept a low profile in the car.
Daddy said it took 30 minutes for Ivan to stop laughing. For months after that, they re-told the story, always enhancing it, at the local greasy spoon. They loved to ask the kid “Can I help you take care of any farms?” “Have you had your brake light checked lately” It was brutal,,,, but pretty funny
The moral of the story: barnyards might be a good place to park but keep your dang foot off the brake pedal
Oh, the stories I could tell... GG - I have heard the story about the red crepe paper many times.. And GB - my gearshift lever seemed to always be in the upper most position. Oh, you mean in the PARK position.
Understand - Like Greybeard, I never Kiss and Tell. Now, what was the question?
Oh,yeah...Something about a favorite parking place.
East, West, North or South - they all worked for me back then...Well, not all, but, most. Funny thing is - Nowadays, not much at all works!!!(Get It?? Poor Pitiful Me!)
I did have a couple of favorite places, though. Uh, actually, 10 or 12 favorite places. It depended on the passenger. They were all a little iffy about one thing or the other. "Its too dark" - "Its not dark enough" - "I don't like that tree, its scary looking" - "Aren't we too close to the main road?" - "We are too far away from the main road!" - "Are we lost?" - "What if some crazy person is living in that barn" - and my favorite "What was that noise??" I heard that a lot. I could not ever figure out how they could hear anything with all of that heavy breathing going on.. Sometimes, I got the feeling that they were paying more attention to what was happening outside of the car than what was going on inside.... Wonder why that was?? Anyway, everytime I heard one of those comments, I knew it was time to move.....
I don't know about you guys, but I am sitting here with a smile on my face thinking of all these good times and feeling about 40 years younger.
TD....
I can't imagine where you heard the crepe paper story.......
that had to be the funniest thing I ever saw. TS going one way and DC going the other way trying to outrun the police.
Driving through the country without their headlights.
There was this really cool farm lane off of 37 into a nice field without anyone living on the property. Used to keep my horse there. Had to go check on him, you know.
PT..
I remember Ivan well, you are so right about the laughing part. So who were those two mysterious people checking the hogs that night????? I loved living out there, except for the stalker.
GG
Did you really have to check on the horse at 11 o'clock at night??? The Red Crepe paper story is told every time the Sutton boys get together. Gary is generally the one that starts talking about it. We need to get Gary involved in this. I'm sure that he could tell some stories??? Remember Poco, Loco and Bill? And that big red Horse that Sandy Sutton owned? And the weekend trips to B.C. State Park camping with the horses?? Some great times as I remember them. Its a wonder that we survived this long.(if I am remembering them correctly)
OH TD,
I sure do remember those camping times in BCSP. The Best of my life. I have some pictures from back then, somewhere in storage.
Gary was a riot, big ole him on the little ole mare of his.
And yes, I did have to go check on my horse at 11pm at night, I was a very attentive owner you know.
Do you remember all the Valley Rider Horse Shows on the 1st Sunday of every month. May through Oct. Gosh what times. I had a box of ribbons and tropheys for along time. That ole yeller horse of mine could run the poles without me doing a thing.
As for the crepe paper, I am pleading the 5th on that one.
I do remember that big red bay (Prince) of Carol and Sandy's they used to ride him and Pinto over to my house on weekends and we rode all over the place.
I have a whole mental diary of funny horse stories.
GB you mentioned both drive-ins, but I would have to pick the Meridian because of the trees near the last row. lol
FF
I can't believe you just said that. lol
I distinctly remember you in my rounds of the county.
I think it was more fun to go park raiding.
Hey, do you remember us going to the Greenwood theater and meeting the Miller boys and making out in the back??????
