MOVIES MOVIES MOVIES
Have you wondered where the great movies have gone, are they still making them?
Have you been disappointed when you go to the theatre and see what's playing, especially for the family?
If it hadn't been for the Harry Potter and Rings Trilogy, I think things would be even worse.
I think one of the best two thumbs up movies we have seen in a long time, was a few years ago. It was Whale Rider. It taught some wonderful life's lessons and had so much to offer.
FG...
You are a true New Zealand lover, if you haven't seen this one, try it out.
Let me know what you think of it. Any other suggestions appreciated.
Thank goodness for Netflix. We have hooked into foreign films like crazy.

Love Foreign Films! One my past careers was with The Sarasota Film Society. We screened movies every week and also had an Annual Film Festival in November with films from all over the world. Anyway...
I am a true NZ lover and ashamed to admit that I've not seen the "Rings" trilogy yet. I wasn't able to catch them in the movie houses and I want to rent all of them and watch then in sequence!!!
I just haven't gotten a block of time to do this for myself. It's on my list of "to do's" and it's right up at the top of that list!
Whale Rider was wondeful. I fell in love with the Maori Culture on my visits to NZ, and their perserverance to keep their culture is amazing to me.
Recently, I haven't seen any NZ films out there. Years ago we screened a rather brutal & sad NZ film...can't recall the title. It was about how brutal the Maori men could be to their women. I'll try to remember that title and some of the other great Foreign Films for recommendations.
Yes, please let me know of any other movies, I love the home rental deal we have. Thousands of foreign films.
I would like to go to NZ sometime, it is on the list.
We got to watch Whaler rider here first and recommend it to anyone.
Whale Rider was a gem! I especially liked the part where they made faces to scare their enemies. I'm going to try it on the next cop that stops me for speeding.
I love foreign films. I look forward to the one week a year when hubby goes to a convention. That's when the Not-Coming-to-a-Theater-Near-You Film Festival begins at my house.
The following foreign films get two paws up: The Shower, Kolya, Cinema Paradiso, and Tampopo (a Japanese spoof on Japanese culture and films --it's a riot)
Other fun flicks: Welcome to Collinwood, An Everlasting Piece, Blackball and Billy Connolly - The Greatest Hits.
One more that I really enjoyed was House of Sand and Fog. Don't watch this one on a sad day.
Also, My Life as a Dog. Only watch this one if you are so down that you would have to cheer up to become suicidal. It's funny and cute but so terribly sad it makes ordinary troubles look like nada
This past week on PBS they were showing Ride the Wave, it was the making of Whale Rider and how close the cast and crew became with the townspeople, it was very good also.
I am checking our Netflix list to see if we have seen any of your suggestions, One I know of for sure.
After getting 13 movies a month for two years, I have to check the list.
You are so right about the House of Sand and Fog, really liked it and My Life as a Dog. Great one there.
Thanks for the suggestions.

If you like some off the wall strange but funny humor, try Eddie Izzard, Dress to Kill.
