JUST A TOUCH OF PRIDE
Tonight while sitting on the lanai and enjoying a cold glass of green tea, we were honored to watch Air Force One fly over our house probably less than 200 ft. overhead. It was wonderful to see the American flag on the tail. It was landing at Hickum Air Force Base and our President and wife and Ms. Rice were honoring our troops with a visit. Just the troops, nothing public. Eating breakfast with them and visiting our bases. He honored a 84 year old lady that had donated more than 10,000 hrs. of service.
Pearl Harbor was in a shutdown due to the visit, but no one seemed to mind.
Living at the mouth of Pearl Harbor, I was honored to be able to show a fellow classmate one of our subs coming in from a short deployment, we were close enough to almost reach out and touch it. Being a past serviceman you could see the pride in his face.
I don't care what other countries and other people say or think about our country and our President, to be that close and knowing he was there just for the troops..well.. it gave me chicken skin.
